Costa Rica is the world's largest exporter of fresh pineapple. With over 30,000 hectares (74,000 acres) planted, it is also the world's seventh largest pineapple producer.

This small country supplies 85% of fresh pineapple to the United States and Canadian Markets. 90% of the pineapple grown in Costa Rica is of the MD2/Golden Variety, the absolute favorite in North America.

No other country can guarantee (like Costa Rica does) that the pineapples used in the juices and concentrates are 100% MD2. In other countries it is standard practice to mix various pineapple varieties.

The MD2/Golden pineapple variety is the consumers' preference above any other varieties in quality and taste. Due to the MD2/Golden pineapple consumer quality preference, it has a much higher retail value in the United States and Europe.
